A new workflow for quinquennial inspections

The new workflow

Survey
— log defects on site, pinned to the plan.
Compare
— see how each item has moved since the last cycle.
Report
— export a polished, boilerplate-ready PDF.

Our vision

We want every conservation practice managing ecclesiastical buildings to have a workflow that matches the seriousness of the work — reducing admin, preserving institutional memory, and giving more time back to the buildings themselves.

Our story

A quinquennial inspection is often the first document anyone opens before maintenance, access works, reordering, redevelopment — or disposal.

Sorting a long list of defects by location and urgency still means juggling Word, Excel and Pages. Photographing every defect is usually the first thing cut for time. Churches receive pages of findings without knowing where the defects are, or how to locate a particular corbel, hood mould or tower louvre. Items get overlooked, then reappear five years later as costly repairs.

QI Resolved is built for inspectors. It aids the inspection on site, sorts the list of defects, and produces the report for the client.

We are talking to inspecting architects, surveyors and diocesan advisory committees about how it should work in practice — and building the denomination templates from what they tell us. If your practice would like to shape it, we would like to hear from you.

What the app does

  • Defect hierarchy

No hardcoded template. Defects are referenced by room, and the hierarchy is sorted once the inspection is done.

  • Photo to defect

Every photo carries its defect ID, its pin on the plan and its caption from the moment it is taken.

  • Floor plan pinning

Upload a plan per level and drop a pin per defect. Tap a pin for the photo, description, urgency and cost range.

  • Grouped costs

Link defects that share one repair — repointing, gutter clearance — so a single cost line never double-counts.

  • Historic comparison

Carry the last quinquennium forward and mark each item Resolved, Ongoing or Worsened rather than retyping it.

  • Structure and contents

Practice boilerplate plus project variables, with a table of contents generated from the headers and live page numbers.

  • Report generation

Templated PDF export that follows your practice's house style, ready to issue to the client.

  • Appendices

A checklist for PAT testing, lightning tests and risk assessments, plus a record of asbestos and burial ground surveys.

  • Denomination templates

A bespoke checklist per denomination, built from what inspectors in the field tell us they need.

How it works

During the inspection

  1. Photograph the floor plan at the start.
  2. Photograph the defect in the app.
  3. Type the description.
  4. Pinpoint the defect on the plan.
  5. The app assigns a defect ID from the room.

After the inspection

  1. Re-shuffle the rooms into the right hierarchy.
  2. Group similar defects into a single item.
  3. Assign one cost range to the group.
  4. Generate the table of contents and export the PDF.

Pricing
